I was asked to write a letter for a bride and groom to read on their honeymoon. I thought I would share it here.

Dear Bride and Groom.

It is such an honor to be asked to write a letter for your wedding. We have been married twenty-five years and our advice to you is simple. We can say it in eight little words:

Sounds easy, right?

“Of course, we know that,” you say.

“I love God more than I love (the bride)”

“I love God more than I love (the groom).”

Good. So when your marriage gets messy (and it will) look at who is center-stage in your heart. It will either be your spouse, yourself, or God. If it’s either of the first two, you will know what the problem is. You must invest in your relationship with Jesus and keep your eyes on Him — not your spouse.

We thought about taking you to Ephesians 5:22-33, or saying marriage isn’t about you it’s about Christ and His bride, the church, or telling you about Bobbie’s grandparents who were married 60+ years and no one ever heard them say a cross word to each other, but as great as all that would be to write, we don’t think it’s as important as the eight little words of advice we have already given you.

So, may God bless you abundantly. May the joy of the Lord be your strength.

No, not always.

Worth it?

You are loved
