My husband and I have moved a lot in our 30 year marriage. Each move had a calling, a purpose. Our children were first horrified, and then over the years became resigned to our nomadic ways.
These were all houses for our bodies. What hubby and I are looking for is the final city we will dwell in whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:10, 16; 12:22; 13:14). The house our spirits live in will take us there (John 14:23; 1 John 4:13).
Charles Spurgeon spoke about this. He asked, “Do you want a house for your soul? Do you ask, ‘What is the purchase?’ ” (He means how much does it cost.) He answers, “It is without money and without price. Ah! You would like to pay a respectable rent!”
The thing is even though they want to, they can’t pay anything for this house. They can’t work for it. They can’t be good enough for it. They don’t have enough money, respectability, or goodness on their own to purchase this house. But, the lease is for eternity with no rent due and here are the keys.
The owner is offering you the same deal.
Riches await you inside you can’t even imagine. It’s furnished with all you need for living a godly, hope-filled, peaceful life. Inside the house is rest for your soul.
“This neighborhood is too grand for me,” you say. “I’m not equipped to live here.”
Don’t worry there are fresh clean spotless garments inside for you.
“But, what about the neighbors? They will know I don’t deserve this.”
Don’t worry! Your neighbors are just like you. They moved into their house feeling as you – unworthy. But, the owner of the house took away their debts, guilt, and shame and made them good enough to live rent free in their splendid home and He will do the same for you.
Come! This is a rock solid house.
Dear sisters, we dwell in such a place – perfect, spotless, restful, and peaceful, with perfect provisions and an impenetrable security system. We dwell in Christ Himself.
