If you are old enough, you will remember the Helen Reddy song, “I Am Woman”. I do. It was my theme song. I was woman and I didn’t need anyone else. I was making my own way. I knew what I wanted and I would do what I needed to do to get it.
I am no longer that woman.
I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus! To be redeemed means to be a complete new person with a new life.
Now, I pray to be like the woman John Piper talks about in This Momentary Marriage: “She looks away from the troubles and miseries and obstacles of life that seem to make the future bleak, and she focuses her attention on the sovereign power and love of God who rules in heaven and does on earth whatever he pleases” (Prov. 31:25, Ps.115:3).
She knows her Bible, and she knows her theology, and she rests in the sovereignty of God, and she believes his promise that he will be with her and will help her and strengthen her.
This is the deep, unshakable root of Christian womanhood. This is redeemed womanhood.
