This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Eph. 5:32
The Great Mystery
Ladies, welcome to my blog, or should I say my rambling thoughts.
I am excited to be writing to you because this post is about a great mystery. It is about the mystery Jesus and Paul talked about in the New Testament.
You didn’t know the Bible was a mystery book did you? I know many of you like a good mystery. Don’t pretend you don’t watch all those mystery shows on Prime and Acorn or read Agatha Christie, or how about John Grisham, my personal favorite.
The Bible contains the greatest mystery the world has known. Like every good mystery, it contains clues. Clues are found in the Old Testament and the solving of the mystery is revealed in the New Testament.
Jesus said, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables” (Mr. 4:11). So, according to Jesus, not everyone will know this mystery. Who will see the clues and understand the outcome? Who was Jesus talking to? His disciples. You and me. We will see the clues in the Old Testament and understand the mystery in the New Testament.
Paul said, “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began” (Ro. 16:25).
And again, Paul said, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory…” (1 Co. 2:7).
According to Paul, this mystery has been God’s wise secret ordained before He made the world. Jesus said we would know the answer to God’s secret. To know this mystery is a gift of God. What is the great mystery? It is the Gospel.
Paul said the mystery was now being revealed to God’s saints. In Col. 1:27 Paul said, “To them God willed to make know what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Hallelujah! Christ in me, the hope of glory!
To me it is a great mystery that I know there is a mystery! That I was in God’s great plot before the world began and that He made me one of His elect characters blows me away. How about you?
You know what He did for us? He showed us the clues and revealed His Son to us. With the great mystery solved, we know that He set His love on us when in eternity past the God Head wrote this script. We are a permanent part of His story and He will never write us out of it. Because we are His, He loves us unconditionally, infinitely and we have peace with Him. No matter what we do, He is not angry with us anymore. What a mystery! What a love story!
Now through His grace we live out the Mystery!
What does that mean? How do we do it?
We have bottomless theology to help us live out this great mystery. The Bible is packed with the hows, and ways, and means. But, the wonderful, amazing thing is, it is all by grace. Jesus said, “It is finished.” Now in love, we run with Him and don’t become weary; we walk with Him and don’t faint.
Happy traveling down this mysterious path!
