Home Building 101

Where is wisdom found?

We all want home to be a place of peace and calm for all who live there or come for a visit. It doesn’t become that way by itself. There is no wizard that waves a magic wand and makes it so. Solomon tells us it takes wisdom as we saw last time.

The wisest of women builds her house,
but folly with her own hands tears it down (Proverbs 14:1).

By wisdom a house is built,
and by understanding it is established. (Proverbs 24:3)

In my previous post, I left you with this verse as a teaser.

“That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2-3)

ALL wisdom and knowledge is hidden in Christ Jesus. You want it, he has it, says Paul. It is his world. He created it, and He sustains it. He’s so kind. He wrote an owner’s manual for us

If we want to be Lady wisdom and not Lady Folly then Jesus is the first and most important step. So …

First: Know Jesus

Do you know him?

Let tell you why it’s important.
God created human beings, Adam and Eve, and gave them the perfect place to live. He personally lived with them. Everything was theirs to enjoy, especially God.

Then entered the slimy Snake who deceived Eve into thinking: God was not good, he was holding out on her, she could be as wise as he, she could be the master of her own destiny, on and on. When Eve gave Adam the fruit to eat and he followed his wife, and ate, he plunged all mankind into sin. Sin is cosmic rebellion against a holy, righteous Creator and we are guilty of it because we have Adam’s DNA, and because of our own rebellion.

But, God made a way for us to return to him. Ephesians 2:4-5 clearly states the process.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved

The Son of God came down from the splendorous courts of Heaven to bear his Father’s wrath for our sin, for us, so that we could be forgiven and made righteous in the Father’s sight.

And here is the good news:

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21).

So, call upon Jesus, Repent and believe, Jesus says to you. Believe that in his death, burial, and resurrection he paid for your sins.

Here’s more good news, he is coming back. One day he will gather all his people and take them home in new, glorious resurrected bodies.

Praying for you.

Second: Know more of Jesus

As we know Jesus more, deeper, better, we will reap more wisdom. Wisdom is found in Him and his word. He has given us all the wisdom we need to build solid, flourishing homes.
Peter, that grand old fisherman turned Apostle said:

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:3).

Where is Jesus’ wisdom found? In his word, and there is no way around it, it requires reading and studying to reap wisdom. Remember, you reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7)? God doesn’t plug us in to some cosmic outlet and download wisdom into our brains. Would be nice. But, he did give us the manual on how life works. My son calls it a children’s book and so it is, written by the perfect Father for his beloved children.

How do we get wisdom?
Know Jesus.
Know Jesus in his word.

Third: Ask

James said to ask for wisdom. .

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him (James 1:5).

It’s that easy. Ask. But, you must ask in faith, believing he keeps his promises.

If you are not already, start a systematic Bible reading plan. And you know what? Doesn’t matter if you don’t get through the Bible in a year. It’s okay. The goal is to know Jesus. Keep that always in mind.

You are loved.
